Happy-ish 4th! We used the scooters when we were there on May. Perfect place to ride! And then we met George Washington. Sorta.

Happy 4th Karen ! For us it is time for barbecue, corn hole, and relaxing on the deck with friends & family. So unbelievably grateful for our amazing country and our little Evergreen. Have a wonderful weekend my special friend.

Hi Karen, thank you for the wonderful “tour” of your home town. It really was delightful. I have been to D.C. several times since my daughter has been doing her residency at George Washington University, but never on the 4th. I must admit that I am grieving the freedoms and independence we used to celebrate on this day. I read John Pavlovitz’s post about the farce of July, I even commented on it. Anne Lamott wrote a nice piece also. Both of them stress bringing light to the darkness, and meeting hate with love. Echos of Martin Luther King’s powerful words. While beautiful and necessary, I am acutely aware that if SCOTUS continues to sanction unfettered power and cruelty our long fought for democracy is in danger. In that case, hope is no more than a buoy in a raging storm, tossed and turned by the force of the sea. And if that is all we have, we will certainly sink. Yet thousands and millions of buoys held together, however tenuously, may help us survive the unsurvivable. That is my hope and that is my prayer. I can celebrate that.
